The 1500cc Bosch L-Jet fuel injection engine runs great and gets super mileage. The chassis rides comfortably around town or on the highway. The 5-Spd manual transmission shifts perfectly in all gears and is comfortable at highway cruising speed.
It has an extremely nice factory interior and exterior, and is a reliable, mechanically sound, un-modified example of the highly sought-after fuel injected Bertone badged X1/9.
It takes an enormous amount of time, effort and money to restore a worn-out X1/9 to this level.
You can begin enjoying this car right now, for a fraction of the cost of doing a restoration yourself.
Body and Exterior
The body is painted factory Blanco / Grigio Metallico (White / Gunmetal Grey) a relatively rare combination.
It is straight, with no collision damage or structural rust issues.
High gloss to the paint, great color on the striping and accents.
The upper white has been repainted some time ago. It has a few minor dings or chips that can seen in the right light or when viewing at sharp angles but the white paint is very forgiving.
All of the plastic trims and stainless bright work are in great condition. All lights and lenses are clear, unblemished.
All original glass with no issues or blemishes.
Lights are fully operational, up and down as expected.
Minor surface weathering on engine cover "rain tray" that can be easily removed and repainted.
Floorpans are perfect, with no rust or damage.
Engine, Fuel, Ignition, Exhaust and Cooling System:
1500cc engine SOHC engine w/Bosch L-Jet.
Recent Timing Belt, Tensioner and V-Belt. Valve clearances adjusted by Midwest-Bayless. New filter, and complete FI manifold refurb with new high pressure fuel lines and injector seals.
The engine bay is clean with original, uncut wiring.
The cooling system offers rock-solid temperatures and the fan works correctly.
Expansion tank is clean and holds pressure correctly. Radiator fins are rust free and fans work correctly. Heater valve and all controls work smoothly.
Climate Control
Heater works correctly, push-button controls work as needed. Fan is operational at all speeds.
Original Air conditioning system is fully operational and blows R-12 COLD!
Electricals
Circuits in great shape, with good voltages, even with wipers, lights and heater fan on. Fresh ignition switch. All accessories and lights work. All cabin switches, gauges, fans, horns and clock work as expected.
Power windows are functional on both sides.
Transmission / Clutch / Driveline
The 5-Spd manual transmission is in excellent condition. It shifts flawlessly up and down with no synchronizer or reverse issues. Trans does not whine. Clutch freeplay has been adjusted, and engagment is smooth.
Steering / Suspension / Tires / Wheels / Brakes
Struts are firm at all four corners. KYBs in the rear. Ball joints, tie-rod ends, and control arm bushings are in good condition with no issues. Fresh radius rod bushings in the front.
All wheel bearings are solid with no hum or play.
Braking system has fresh pads, flex hoses and caliper mainteance. Handbrake works correctly, stops well.
Factory issue 13" Cromodora CD-16 "Iron Cross" in correct all silver.
New Federal 175/65/13 tires.
This car drives straight, tracks true. No vibrations or wheel hop.
Interior / Top
Original leather interior, a hallmark of 1983/84 Bertone cars is in excellent untorn / unworn condition.
Rare uncracked dashboard and the glovebox works!
The original ribbed leather seats are in excellent condition with no tears.
Matching leather door cards as fitted from the factory.
The Bertone X1/9 features an improved, lowered seat arrangement giving additional head and leg room to even the tallest of drivers.
A factory moulded black carpet is clean with good color and minimal blemishes. No visibly torn or worn areas.
Has original dealer option Clarion Magi-Tune digital receiver and amp!
Targa top has black headliner and is in correct working condition with no chips or damage.
Front /Rear Trunk
Car has been fitted with a factory issue molded front trunk carpet and battery cover intact.
Fluid reservoirs in excellent condition, with no cracks or repairs.
Rear trunk contains factory jack and toolkit.
Both lower trunk pockets are excellent with no repairs.
